Privacy on a public profile: what to check before publishing

Before publishing a profile, review not only the form fields but also your photos, contact details and links. People you do not know can read a public profile. Decide in advance what you want to share and which information should remain private.
Keep account details separate from public content
Login details serve a different purpose from your profile name, description or visitor contact details. Never put your password or login code in public text. Treat your email address with the same care: if you write it in a description or display it in a photo, readers can see it regardless of the settings of other fields.
Ask yourself whether visitors need each piece of information. A city can help them understand your location, while your private home address, exact date of birth or family details may be unnecessary. For a business, publishing its premises may be an intentional part of its presentation.
Check more than the main subject of each photo
Enlarge photos before uploading. Check reflections, screens and objects in the background. An interior photo may look fine, but a parcel on a table could reveal a full name and address. Removing the item and taking another photo is a safer choice.
- Keep identity documents, mail, receipts and work badges out of the frame.
- Check for other people's faces or private conversations visible on a screen.
- Consider whether the image reveals a location you do not want to publish.
- Use content you are entitled to publish. Clarify consent in advance with anyone else shown.
Photos may also contain technical data, such as where they were taken. Check camera settings and file information before uploading; do not assume the website removes all metadata automatically. For choosing and organising a gallery, see the separate profile photo guide.
Choose phone numbers and external links carefully
Treat a contact number intended for visitors as public. If a profile initially hides it behind a Show contact button, this adds a step to viewing it; it is not a promise of privacy. Consider a separate number for your public presence.
Open each link and check its destination. A social network or another platform may reveal your full name, personal photos or other contact details. Review the privacy settings of the account you are linking. The link should lead to a presence you actually want associated with your profile.
View your profile as a visitor would
Check your draft in the editor before submitting it for approval. After publication, open its address while logged out, for example in a private browsing window. This lets you check a visitor's view; private browsing does not itself hide information you have published.
Review the directory card, full profile, gallery and any Stories. Check them on a phone too. Remember that visitors may make a copy of a Story. Removing it from the profile does not remove copies they have already made.
A quick checklist before publication
- Text: includes only information I want to share publicly.
- Photos: I have checked backgrounds, reflections and file information.
- Contacts: the phone number and other details are intended for visitors.
- Links: lead to the correct accounts and do not reveal unwanted information.
- Preview: after publication, I will check the actual public profile on a phone too.
What to do if you need to change something
Start in My profile. If editing or removing content does not work, send support a link to the affected profile and briefly identify the photo or information concerned. You do not need to resend all the sensitive content.
A change on NIGHTY does not itself remove copies already saved or published elsewhere. See the Privacy Policy for information about data processing and how to submit a request.
NIGHTY support is available every day from 10:00 to 18:00 Czech local time by phone on +420 720 388 917 and via WhatsApp. Do not send passwords or login codes.
